^^^ Exactly. Some of us don't hear nearly as well as we once did.
I don't have hearing issues but I expect people to point their faces at me (eye contact) and speak up top be heard. If someone is mumbling to their sneakers or phone I will say "what?!"
This is becoming common.
Speaking directly to someone now can be "intimidating." Outside of a TED Talk, of course.

ValleyGirlSpeak was sooooo '80's. But I was sitting in the coffee shop off CO115 and Academy yesterday, when a young lady teen was talking to someone older. I actually counted one sentence that had four "likes".

Women (the ones in my life), or a significant other, who is soft-spoken, in the next room, walking away from you, talking to you while the dish-washer/fan/game/movie/tv-show/music/radio/(fill in the blank) is on.
I was going to say my kids math book, but the term lind of fails to adequately describe the rage I feel towards the book and anyone involded in any way with it.
