I too was skeptical, all I know is that the coffee has improved over the drip coffee maker I used before (and it also had a cone filter). It might actually be the Chemex filter is better, I just don't know.

It might also have something to do with how I'm heating the water. My parents gave us one of these for Christmas...

...and my wife has been using it for months to make her tea, which is one reason why I decided now was a good time to get a Chemex pot.

That's why I replaced the carafe on our drip machine with a thermal one (and shut off the burner).

True, have a couple of those, they work pretty well with tea also if you wet the tea bag first otherwise it comes out weak. .

I also have (B150) the same unit (sort of) as the one at work (B155) and it gets used and abused heavily at work. The guy that comes and services them says at high altitude here the trick is to puncture the bottom first like you said because when they invented these cups they didn't take into consideration the pressures involved in a k-cup as it gets sold in high altitude. He also says to run an empty cup of hot water through periodically. Other than that I have had very little issues with mine, and had it nearly a year now. It is directly plumbed to tap water.

The B150 and the B155 are technically "commercial" versions, and they do NOT tke the reusable K-cups that you can put your own grounds in without modifications, or at least not yet. The maintenance guy said that when they designed the commercial ones they didn't think anyone would bring their own cup attachment like that at work or whatever. (PM me if you find one!)



EDIT: I am also not a coffee weanie, so I am perfectly happy with the 100 k-cup box at Costco for 35 bucks.

We've had a Capresso electric kettle for several years. Does a great job at boiling water, but you definitely have to work to keep the scale off the inside.
