So would using knuckles on a person lead to a tougher charge? Could it show some sort of premeditation or a propensity for violence? To me any claim of self defense would pretty much go out the window, you were not just defending yourself, you meant to do major bodily harm. Or maybe not, I dont know.

Why would a girlfriend set him up, did they steal something? A wife I could see not wanting to go through a divorce, but a girlfriend. I would think they could get her with conspiring or something similar. Would be interesting to hear the whole story.

Depending on the circumstances, it might mean the difference between 3rd degree assault (misdemeanor) and 1st degree Assault (Class 3 felony). Realistically, the charge would be attempted murder, 1 count for each blow they could prove was thrown, although the DA might add on the weapons charges and assault to increase leverage for obtaining a plea deal.

Just because you get your head bashed in by a bad guy, doesn't make you a bad guy necessarily.

Maybe the set-up part is she let the dude in the apartment.
The "why" is the missing part of the story.

Maybe the other guy was under the impression that she was HIS girlfriend.
