Bald Eagles spotted

How long have they been there? I don't think of them as migratory, however wikipedia states some do. Also some will congregate in great numbers during winter months or breeding. I also don't think they actually stayed put for long. As mentioned, they are all over CO, i've seen them by my house too. They were gone after several months though. There are certain times of years when they are very thick in some SWA's, and that is why I was under the impression they don't necessarily stay put. The DOW usually puts out an press release when they are all congregating, however couldn't find it on their website.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but that may put the damper on having it a protected area.

Yeah they showed up a couple months ago and I have seen them almost daily. I'm not far from a golf course so I am guessing they might have a nest there since there is a younger bird. They just come behind the house to get some chow.
I would love to see the land behind me get labeled as a preserve or something so they couldn't build on it and maybe enhance it for more wildlife but more than likely it will be over run with houses once the economy gets back on track and the developers get their hands on it.

FYI almost all large raptors are migratory.

Got a bunch of them around here all the time. There are like 10-15 of them here year round. I dont get to watch them snatch PD's though- but it is cool watching them take trout out of the river.

I saw some in RMNP last September. Imagine, at my age that these were the first I'd ever seen in the wild. Then I saw two just West of Monte Vista late last October. It was neat to see.

There is a couple up here in Fort Collins. One of them is HUGE.

I was in Wisconsin fishing for Musky with my brother. He was using a hogwobbler which is a big floating lure that wobbles on the surface.

All of a sudden I hear my brother say, " Oh NO! Its going to get it!"

I look over and I see a bald eagle flying 30 feet from the boat and fly over my brother's lure and grab a perch out of the water about 5 feet from the lure.

Coolest thing I ever saw.

I was fishing in yellowstone a few years back and there was several of them nesting along the coastline. I watched one huge bald eagle (female because they are larger than the males) dive down and snag a large trout out of the water and carry it over to her young. very cool to see!

The best thing I saw with them during that trip was a Bald eagle searching the water then some smaller birds starting picking on the bald eagle and trying to nip at it or something. One of the birds came from the right and the bald eagle did a roll, snatched the smalled bird in its talons, killed it, complete the roll and dropped it in the water!
