Eskies are clever dogs, great pets but need to blow off a lot of energy. Sweet, affectionate- but if they're going to be around very small children like toddlers, watch close until you know they'll tolerate ear tugging, etc. Miniature eskies can tend toward nipping sometimes.
Eskies will dig unless you provide them with stimulation and training. I've seen great success come from flyball; look into it and see if there's a local group.
You didn't specify if it's a miniature or standard, but either one of them require a bit of grooming. They have a double coat, so be sure to use a slicker brush and not one of those pin brushes that you see in Petsmart. Do not shave them in summertime. Be sure to have their nails trimmed regularly.
I've seen dental issues crop up in the miniatures more often than the standards, so you may want to plan on regular dental visits for the pup.
