It's the Thought that Counts.
Firearms are generational "hand me downs" that are accepted with reverence. In your case it would be a "hand me up", and I am sure your father would accept it as you would if it were comming from him.
No you should give it to me. Dads only get factory ar's.
Of course you should give it to him.
He will love the AR
He won't appreciate the Ar like my safe would!
I say give it. Beats giving nothing at all.
If anybody needs to regift I am available.
The Secretary of the Treasury at my home says, "No".
Whether you purchased it or won it, doesn't matter. If someone else can make better use of it, pass it along.

I got a sweet pair of binoculars from my wife's mom's husband (re-marriage so not really a F-I-L) that he won as a prize. I could care less because it's a sweet gift to me. A gift is a gift. If you didn't own it prior and someone gives it to you, just appreciate it. Spending your own money on something doesn't change what the item is.
To re-gift would by definition require that you obtained the item as a gift. Having obtained in some other fashion eliminates the ability to add the re- to the gifting process.
If perhaps you hold a drawing for said item, would it therefore be called a re-draw? Maybe re-prize?
