I really need to adjust my deductions. I got entirely too much back this year.
With my daughter I get $800 with out I owe $750.
Mine are all done and I'm just waiting on one more thing to enter then I will send it off. Hopefully this week 'cause I needs da munee
First year for Married filing joint, and first child. Needless to say, i'm getting around $3,000 state and fed, as opposed to the normal $600 or so combined. Just hope they hurry up with the refund...
Last year I got $900 back. For tax year 2013 I adjusted my W4 up 1 deduction and made a couple of short term changes for my bonus, this year I'm down to a $99 refund which means I got to use $800 during 2013 instead of the goddamn government using it for free. :)

I had a lot of changes this year (bought a new house, had a baby, working on my masters, got a raise, etc) so it was purely luck that I was so close on my estimate. I got $300 back from the fed and $244 back from the state. I would have owed a bit if it weren't for the huge deductions I was able to make related to buying a house (and paying a ton in interest).
My brother doesn't have any withholding. Instead, he sets aside the predicted amount that he will owe and does short term investing. This way, he can use that capitol to earn more $$$ instead of forking it over to the fed to devalue. I like this plan, and ideally I think this is what we all should do (or something similar) but right now I just have too many changing variables.
