Anyone have a Toyota FJ Cruiser?

If you want a Toyota that will take care of camping duties, is not a pickup and can come with a v8... Look into the late 90's / early 00's land cruisers. Another great Toyota was the 3rd generation 4runner. Lots of aftermarket support for both vehicles, tough to kill, hold their value and have some of the options you are looking for.

FJ's are nice but in my opinion can be a little impractical when sitting more than 2 people. The back doors are really a pain to use especially when parked close to other cars. I also can't justify spending 32k on a vehicle either. Spend 12-15k get some tasteful wheels/tires, aftermarket steel bumpers, sliders and have money left over.

My dad has one he likes it except for it uses premium fuel only.

Why not look into a trail edition 4runner? Or get the limited if you want some luxury. It'll get you off road, handle cargo and you can take it to a nice night out and not feel like you're in your work truck.

I think I have been talked out of the FJ. I am not looking for something to offroad. I want something that CAN offroad if I need to. If I can get the dealer to give me a good deal on a 2014 Limited Trail edition 4runner, I think i'm going to pick that up. They look nice and ive always wanted one. Thanks for the help guys!

I was looking at used FJ Cruisers last year. Nice vehicle, too much $$$ for me though, value wasn't there. I ended up with a really nice 3rd Gen 4Runner. Now when people ask me what their next vehicle should be I just point at my 3rd Gen. :)

Agreed. Windshield is very far in front of the driver's head with a thick A-pillar and thicker C-pillar. Corner visibility sucks.

They reworked the engine a bit for the 2010 models. 2010 and newer can use the cheap stuff. The newer engines also have a canister oil filter rather than a spin on.

Those saying they cost too much are comparing them the same way they would compare to a domestic 4x4 are being myopic. Toyota trucks cost more up front but what you retain in the long run is WELL worth the up front investment. I just saw a guy sell his 2010 Tacoma Access Cab for more than I paid for mine with 3x the mileage and mine was supercharged when I bought it. I paid a little bit more than other similar trucks I could have got but after a couple of years of ownership and thanks to buying the right truck at the right price I rest easy knowing that I can still MAKE money if I decided to sell it tomorrow. That's a good feeling and there's no way in hell I coulda done that with any domestic truck. I know a guy that bought a Canyon 6 or so years ago because it was $3k less than a comparably equipped new Tacoma. Fast forward about 4 years and he was kicking himself when his Canyon wasn't even worth half of what he paid and similar Tacomas were only selling for a few grand less than what they were new. If you want a FJ or another Toyota truck don't let the initial bite of a couple/few grand more scare you off because it will be worth it in the long run.

True story.....

I was looking for a first Gen 4 door Tacoma for quite awhile before I finally found a keeper, and what I was seeing was nothing short of crazy. There were trucks with 100,000 more miles than mine, going for the same price I paid. I plan to run mine into the ground, but I'm not so sure I couldn't get my money back, a few years and a few miles down the road.

I have a 2014 with the new roller rocker motor. Run mid grade fuel gets 17 - 18 mpg around town has heated leather seats, rear locker, a trac etc. It does really well in snow with out the use of 4x4. I does have the blind spots but not that bad wit spot mirrors. I like it.
