You should never jack around with a new firearm until you are sure that it is functioning properly, you probably voided any warranty by removing the gas block and changing Handguards before even firing it.

You stated a1/4 in.of movement, the gas ports are anywhere from .081 - .096 in. DIA. And a 1/4 in. Equals .250 in.( up to 3X port size ) You very well could have misaligned the ports.

is it a rifle length gas system? are you shooting .223 or 5.56. the misalignment is more likely, but i once had a rifle length bushy that would not cycle .223

Thank you for everyones help! It was an alignment issue with the front gas block over the gas port on the barrel. Like I said I am a newbie, I am definitely learning. I appreciate the input.
