204 would be a close second. 223 used to be A LOT cheaper than 204, not so much anymore.

For a all around general purpose round it's hard to beat a .243, they're great for P-Dogs and legal for big game. Great selection of bullets/weights, I've been shooting them for about 30yrs and have 3 rifles in that caliber. You can expect to pay $.80-$1.50 around depending on MFR and load.Bang for the buck it's hard to beat a .223, @ $.40-$90 a round and availability it's my first choice for sub 400yds and days with little to no wind. The .204 and 22-250 are zippy and will reach out there but wind carries them and at long distance energy really drops off a cliff. Rounds are closer to the .243 cost from what I've seen.
