Just left teaching to go back to Emergency Management work. It was amazing my Blood Pressure has been down, no more headaches, and Sunday nights are nice knowing I do not have to go to work. I hated Sunday nights because I knew where I had to be the next morning.

I'll be working in the oil and gas industry, doing pretty much the same type of work which is well design. Instead of working for a service provider though, I'll be working for an operator.
The biggest factor in my decision was that I won't be on-call. I'll finally be able to escape to the mountains on the weekends without worrying about staying in cell range.
Congrats!! I'd walk off my job in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the fact that I'm self employed.. [hammer]
Congratulations! I just did the same thing for the same reasons.
I have left a couple of jobs that way. Walked in on one where I had a vehicle torn down on the lift, picked up my box and left. With the nuts and bolts for the vehicle up in the air. The manager really pissed me off on that one.Quote:

I don't want to say that I burned a bridge by leaving. I gave ten days notice only because I had a trip to Chicago planned and approved before I left, so that's all they were going to get. For the past couple months, I asked for help on the account and never received any. Like I said, I'm being replaced by multiple people.
I think the biggest surprise was that the group I work with in Alaska countered my new offer but the group I was employed by in Wyoming wasn't willing to budge. I didn't ask for a counter offer but the fact they weren't interested told me that I was just a number to them.
I would've loved to just empty my desk and say "I'm out." but that would've definitely burned the bridge with not only the company I'm leaving but also the customers I worked with.
Good for you. I Hate on-call, and random overnights, the heat, the cold the rain. Unfortunately my skill is less portable. I admire folks that have the fortitude to make major job changes. For most of us it's the devil we know. I'm sure you made the right move.
Nothing feels better than leaving a crappy job and realizing that the world wont come to an end if you have to find another one. A lot of companies still have the opinion you should be happy to just have a job so suck it up. Once you realize that there are jobs out there for skilled hard workers it is very freeing. Finding jobs is easy, especially if you do the "lowly" blue collar jobs and work with your hands, and they pay very good also.
