Perhaps the Politicians in OR felt having a state vs local entity was better. State LE enforcing state / federal law
Seems to me that if they want to do something like this, there needs to be a much better record accounting put in place first....aside from all the other logistical errors which would cause a failure, is mislabling.
I had a buddy a while back that got into a fistfight in public (with another dude), both got arrested charged with misdemeanor, but he got flagged as a domestic violence, and they lost the arrest record....I seem to recall it taking him a few years to clear up, but the point is that in this case he would have been arrested again essentially without cause the first time he found out about the problem.....
The "Culpable mental state" brings concern to me.

I thought lying on a 4473 was a federal offense? Why are the state police involved? As for the OP.. Enforcing existing laws before making new laws is what everyone is asking for..

Come on... Everyone knows that anyone in law enforcement is automatically was smarter than the rest of us. Plus, they get special training.
