Whats up with this scam?

Back when people actually had hard-wired phones in their houses there were devices that you could configure to screen calls...

People still have land lines?

My conversation with them goes like this. HELLO we're, CLICK. Usually i check caller iud. Other times, it's Click. Why do people allow a call from someone they do not know, to go more than 2-3 words. Hang Up. Let the next call go to VM. If it's important, they leave a message. If not they don't.

I have to be polite on the phone all day for my job so it's kind of fun to be able to say whatever to them for once.

Anyone, including the IRS, that is notifying you of any action they are going to take, will do so by mail. Period.

So glad to have caller ID pop up on the TV.

But we generally let the machine get it regardless.

Simple trick I learned from my dad: Don't pick up until the 4th ring, and then only if the caller id (or iud in Jim's case) shows a number you recognize. Solicitors are paid based in part on the number of live people they talk to...

I got one from a local heating company the other night to schedule my annual furnace check-up. According to the lady I am a longtime customer ?
I've never used anyone for an annual furnace check-up.

This is the exact reason I miss having a house phone. My wife would get pissed at me cause I would keep them on the phone for an hour. I always figured if I could keep them on the phone long enough that would prevent them from scamming someone that is more vulnerable than I am.
