Like gman said. Any cell connects to 911, even places it shows No Service. It's a tad late to wake and ask her. I'll give you her # , let you deal with it. ;)
IIRC it's AT&T . It's her carry piece, along with knife & g26 . Seems to work fine in metro areas. We avoid travelling, when possible, thus unable to say it works great in mountains. She has service out past Briggsdale / Pawnee, if that helps.

I have had a Tracfone for 8 years. I pay about $100 per year. I can check my Email and see news/weather. It is not a smart phone and does not surf the web so to speak but for what I need it for it works just fine.
most cell providers have kiddy phones that are cheaper than a full blown plan, my 15 year old has a phone just like mine, but I am looking at getting his younger sisters phones that just call and text, the lines are only 10 a month from my provider.
