You think about it could be a conflict here. Here just me and my 7 year old son alone on the range and I see it. For safety reasons, when around a unknown weapon it is my duty as a father and responsible gun own to know it's condition, right? Do I break a law by checking it? BTW once I knew its condition I left it there and waited for the range to officially open to the public and inform said RO.Quote:

You bring up an interesting point. If it has a mag with more than 15 rounds what do you do about the magazine? Much like if you wanted to lend out a G17 and all you had was 17 rounders. You could legally transfer the gun, not the mags. I found a pistol once in Five Points and called the man. I was told guns are not finders keepers. Seems even after a wait the man gets to keep it. If it's the range I'm thinking of, they have a very good record of being way above board and will look hard for the actual owner.
she must have been cute, can't think of much else that would cause me to forget a rifle at the range.
Back in Feb or so I went to the range. Put a few hundred rounds of ammo through everything I had, but only shot about half of what I brought. I realized I wasn't having any fun. I packed up and went home. Later that evening I'm unpacking the car in the garage, and I realize I'm short a gun! [panic]
I realize I bagged up the AK and put it behind me in the storage rack, but then packed up the Garand and went home. I called them as soon as they opened the next morning and said "This may be the most embarrassing thing I've ever said, but..." and he cut me off and told me to come by and they have it there. Fortunately they realized it was mine. Thought it odd that a tacticool AK-74 was in a bag with a bunch of enbloc clips![ROFL2]
I left my staple gun at the range a few weeks ago.

I could see how it could happen, at least temporarily. I was shooting with my daughter, and had one of my pistols in a cheap clip on holster on my belt....bent down to help my daughter shoot her .22, we both walked back to the bench and I looked back across the range and was like "hey, someone dropped a pistol in a holster". Upon closer inspection, I realized I recognized said pistol [facepalm]
