While I'm sure abuse is very rampant in that shit show railroad, its far more likely that the person doing the auditing, and subsequent squeezing to anyone that would listen simply didn't know how to read a time sheet associated with the RR union contracts.
They list each different differential, as hours on a separate line on the sheet, so its entirely possible for a 12 hour day to look like 48 depending on the circumstances.
Don't you get it... The train was passing multiple time zones. Hence the 40 hours in a day.
I have worked 36 and 40 hr days before. If we are on a job and work a double then all associated hrs get put down for the day that our shift started, however the next day reflects that with little or no hrs worked, and we must document how the hrs are broken down. I doubt that this is the case here, as I'm sure someone is just trying to work the system.
I vote we all work 40 hours a day for just one day a week. Six day weekends would be awesome.
If an attorney speaks to four clients for 15 minutes each in one hour, then each client is billed for one hour. If the same attorney makes 40 such phone calls over ten hours then the attorney will bill 40 hours for 10 hours worth of work.
