Don't try to blame them for not sending the renewal, its up to you to be on top of when your tags expire.
I used to write that citation 5-10 times a week. Always advised the person to renew immediately and go to the court date and show it. They were always dismissed.

Was your wife "driving" or "traveling?" There are some really interesting sources on the Interwebz that state that you, the individual, the settler, and the agent do not have to register your vehicle if you are traveling.
[Sarcasm2]
Get to the DMV and register the car. Take proof to the court appearance and all should be well. Remember this time next year and the state gives you a 30 day grace period [Flower]
Thanks all, I appreciate the info.
Yikes! I have my calendar on my computer set up to remind me, 30 days before the due date.
Not in Colorado yet. But I few times in Texas
Never got caught... I seriously missed a whole year on my pickup that is a daily driver. Still paid 2 years worth of registration. State got their money...ohhh well.
I'd say tell teh truth... "forgot, registered right away, ooops, sorry 'your honor' it will not happen again."
