WTF is rust? Isn't that how they put that old blue-colored finish on guns?
i just used Eezox in high humidity areas, never had to worry
I use dessicant in a can. I just put it in the oven to recharge it once the color has changed. Never had any rust, but I'm also not in the best place to test it, apparently. [Neene1]
I use these (cheap) but we don't need no stinkin dehumidifier here.

A big ass bag of silica gel and some cans or jars with perforated lids. "Recharge" in the oven as needed. Evidently calcium chloride works even better, but turns to a liquid mess after a while in continuously moist environments.

I had the same experience when we moved here, to Maine. My safe is in an unheated shop, the Golden Rod dehumidifier solved the problem.
