I drained the backflow and opened the bleeder valves. I wish I could get the water out of the lines myself but don't have a compressor. Opened each zone to relieve the pressure at least.

I drained the backflow and opened the bleeder valves. I wish I could get the water out of the lines myself but don't have a compressor. Opened each zone to relieve the pressure at least.
The only thing that freezes on this early storms is the backflow (above ground part). Take some insulation and put it around the pipes that are above ground. Put a plastic trash bag over the insulation so it doesn't get wet.
This works down into the single digits. (years of commercial irrigation experience).
The in ground stuff will be fine a while longer, the ground holds a lot of heat.
It has been so wet this fall that I'm not sure I'll need to water further. It will take some time for my lawn to dry up from this snow. We shall see.
