Yeah, most people tend to quit smoking when they shoot themselves in the head or get put in jail for murder.

Congrats! Stay strong, you’ll never be disappointed in yourself over an unsmoked cigarette.
Hang in there, it's worth it!!!
Congratulations! You can beat this.
Good job, Keep it up!!!
I had quit for several years at a time with patches and gum but always lapsed. The Chantex worked for me, doctor said I could have vivid dreams and that's what happened, nothing exotic just the intense dreams, I was perfect otherwise (the wife said I was an A-hole but she always says that).
The stuff did the job for me, a three week dosage and that's it. That was 20 years ago, I know folks that have been smoke free but have been chewing Nicoret for 30 years.
Whatever way you chose, stick with it.
Way to go, Bob! Stick to it. You won't regret it. I think the entire forum is rooting for you on this.
I quit smoking once for 2 weeks cold turkey. Physically, the addiction was over with but the mental thing was what got me in a moment of stress. Definitely have a plan to shift stress in another direction (not eating!), because there will be some serious temptation once your are over the physical aspect. I no longer smoke, but that's because I dip :)
I am a little over 8 years without a cigarette after smoking heavily for 33 years. I made up a little acronym of Not One Puff Ever (NOPE) to help me counter urges and help stay off the stuff. I finally stopped coughing up the black stuff about 4 years ago, and hope I caught it in time.
Remember, the world is your oyster if you do this. Steak dinners, buy that new backpack, whatever you want, whenever you want it.
Good luck!

[Beer] Keep at it and good luck!
I smoked 2 packs a day for about 27 years. Quit 34 years ago and still have health issues today because of it.
Stay strong !!!!
