Similar damage to what you're describing
I didn't want to buy a new insulated door after pricing one, so i took the panels down one by one, put them on sawhorses and basically did bodywork to hammer the dents out. One place it was still weak (where the strut for the opener attached) I bought some aluminized steel sheet metal to reinforce it. Cut to fit, and used bigger screws... could hardly tell and the house sold that way. I would have welded, but with foam insulation inside I thought that may not end well.

I've replaced the driver mirror on my wife car twice and the mirror on the now is broken.
