Always keep one in the chamber?
Down at work we have a mandatory live fire test for our CCW classes.
15 yds, 7yds, 4yds, 2 handed, r-hand only, l-hand only, under pressure, ideally from holster, from concealment, with the actual gun the student is planning to carry.
Minimum passing score is 70% of maximum.
I practice at least once a week with the same test and try to hit 100% with my carry gun.
Most time I am in the high 99%'s.
Anything under 98% calls for a full week of practice to get back in shape.
My personal yard stick is either the CSAT pistol instructor standards or the pre 9/11 FAM qual. If I can pass I can live with myself, if I can clean them it's a good day.
For others I say let your conscience be your guide, just remember you buy everything your rounds hit.
I favor the Aunt Girtie standard in which Girtie has the absolute right to keep and bear arms for self defense. If in any situation anyone attempts to rob, molest or otherwise take wrongful, undue and forceful advantage of Aunt Girtie then she has the right to self defense that supersedes any more refined standard as defined by some bureaucrat/lawmaker.
Who will take Aunt Girtie's pistol over some "standard"? What if she shoots Trayvon in the arm, the pelvis and the toe instead in center of mass? is she then unqualified to defend herself?
