I've been called several times, only got to Voir Dire once. The lead detective on the case was one of my team leaders as a MP in the Army. The judge nicely asked if I could put aside our history and judge the case on the facts presented. I politely said, "Your Honor, I went into combat with this man. I trusted him with my life then, and I would today." I was immediately excused.
What do the pay now days?
Well, ended up as foreman in a civil trial. We deliberated for about 2 1/2 hours after 3 days of testimony.
