I have been known to hunt them in NE CO. I usually use a bow, but have been known to use my 308 for the flat lands. And what ever carry pistol I am using for the tall grass.

Sounds fun to me I have been wanting to try that for a few years now. Wish that wasn't so far away. My buddies just think I'm crazy.
Check up around the North Shoot site.. I know a couple of years ago there was at least one..

If you just want to get rid of the rattle snakes, go catch a bunch of bullsnakes and turn them loose on your property. I guarantee your rattler problem will be solved. Bullsnakes will also take care of any mice and other small rodents.
The season is June 15-August 15 Daily limit 3 possession limit is 6, I'm not sure if rules change on private property but a simple call to the dow will answer all question (303)297-1192 .
I would also enjoy shooting a few snakes and dont mind driving let me know
if anyone is up for it and wants to take a newb rattlesnake hunter out i would love to go. i do lots of small game and big game as we as upland and waterfowl but never snakes. sounds like fun!

I have 40 acres south east of Pueblo and 2009 was a bumpercrop year for prairie rattlers. You can do a forum search to see pics of a large one I shot back in October.
I use a 12 guage with #7 or #8 trap loads. These will atomize a rattler from 20 feet, or if you get a little closer, you can take one's head off pretty clean.
I hunt them as a safety measure as I have small children and dogs. Non venomous snakes are always welcome at my place for rodent control, but rattlers are shot on sight.
If you are interested, you are welcome to come out to my place to hunt them for their skins or meat or whatever. As long as you are a safe hunter and observe all proper firearms handling protocols, I would welcome the help. I shot six of them last year within 50 yards of the house.
