Well, I opted to rebuild an old rifle with a slightly different upper, so I'll be going with neither one. As to where to get that deal...Gander Mountain in Thornton has Colt AR-15s, 16", for $850, and as of when I called last night, plenty of them in stock.
Just got off the phone with gander mtn, colt rifles selling for $1700 for .223 and $650 for .22lr. Nothing special here. If somebody quoted you $850, you missed your chance at 1/2 off.
