going fishing

Yeah carp is pretty nasty, if you smoke them they are edible.
Crawfish you can catch with a piece of bacon or hotdog on paper clip tied to a string.
Spinner baits work good in lakes if they are bighting and you use the right one, but you usually have to be fishing some kind of cover.

Some old guy told me yesterday that they were good eating. No thanks

An old guy once told me the best way to cook carp is grill them over low heat on a cedar board... then throw away the fish and eat the board.

Hmm. I Googled the lake - got the satellite image and didn't see you out there on the dock. You must have been in the bathroom at the time.[ROFL1]

So, I'm not at all familiar with fishing in/around Denver but the Google satellite image showed a lot of little lakes up around that area. Given that it is so much larger than Bear Lake, I'm curious why you didn't go to Marston Lake instead?

Does anyone know if you are allowed to take crayfish for eating? I didn't see anything on the sign at the fisherie about them. It just listed the fish and said live bait was okay.

You can eat all you can catch. You're allowed to catch all you want. The only restriction is (depending on where you are catching them) you may have to remove the tail from the thorax at the catch site.
