As a parent I'd prefer to make it clear to the school administration that, should a serious incident regarding alleged misbehavior or illegal behavior by my child occur, I'd want to be notified immediately and be present before my child was interrogated. I also wouldn't put the responsibility on a young child of making a decision on whether or not to answer questions from a police officer or school administrator regarding "any incident".

If it's a minor behavioral problem, I'd expect the school officials to handle it and let me know.

The problem with the educational systems these days is that:

Teacher: "Johnny...did you shoot that spitwad at Susie?"
Johnny:Yes, Ma'am


This admission turns into a Felony assault case, The parents sue you in civil court and your son gets dragged out of school in handcuffs and you lose custody for some obscure city worker aspiring to make AG.
Let's face it, Our society has turned into a Knee-jerk self serving society. A society where a child's words or illustrations may be used to make a judgment of perceived threat without actually ascertaining the full spectrum of that situation. Decisions are not made based on what is best for the child or even whats best for the class, but instead "How will this decision benefit ME?"

So yeah, if my son were in school, he might well have one of those on him.
Last thing my son needs is a lifetime being branded as a "sexual offender" all because he kissed a little girl when he was 3.

I'm no fan of our public education system nor most of those responsible for administering it.

Your illustration goes far beyond problems with the public education system, though, and strikes me as a little melodramatic.

I figure, just teach your child right from wrong, parent them, don't just raise them. Teach them to do everything in their power to get a teacher in the mix of whatever is going on before ever defending themselves (if ever in that kind of situation). If they did do something bad, then they should be punnished (not the overboard bs). If they were innoscent and are harrassed or god for bid taken to jail like that poor other child, lawyer up and sue.

I fail to see how you can accurately assert this is becoming the norm. How many similar instances went unreported and/or were handled appropriately? That's right. You DON'T know. You may believe it's becoming the norm based on some limited anecdotal evidence but that doesn't make it so.

And I think parents are oftentimes as much at fault as the school system. I would expect parents to teach their kids values...to be active in balancing inappropriate things learned in school with appropriate things learned at home.

And when parents learn of inappropriate curriculums being taught in school it's incumbent upon the parents to hold school administrators and teachers accountable.
