Take that thing off any sweet jumps lately?
Screw bikes, take it slow and do crossfit. It is a cross training program that involves cardio, calisthenics, and weight training. I'm sure there is a gym down there, most cf gyms take anyone of any type of shape and help you along.
Basically whatever you choose to do, make sure you STICK TO IT! Make it a lifestyle. A couple years ago, I was getting up there in weight, well over 200lbs, and i'm 5'9", couldn't hardly run a half mile at a slow speed. I decided that is not how I want to live life, and did something about it. I'm now at 4-5 mile runs a day, 4 days a week. Along with a strict weight routine, including weighted pullups and dips, and a strict diet. It really is, all in your head, and you can do it.
I just got a bike too--matter of fact it's a Trek also. I haven't ridden a bike in 45 years and I actually am having a great time with it.
My work is pretty physical but I got the bike for a little extra cardio stuff and with the price of gas I can use it for the close by quick runs to the store and such.
I just got punture resistant tubes put in the tires because I found out the hard way that a local field has those "goathead" stickers and getting a flat kinda sucked.
I got mine at Bicycle Village and it came with a kickstand and free adjustments and tuneups for the life of the bike.
The wife and I bought a pair of Cannondale F3's 2 or 3 years ago and I asked were the kickstand was also, besides that you have to be a damn engineer to run one now from switching into one of the 27-32 gears you also now have to buy a nipple to fill the damn tire....If I wanna buy some nipple I'm going to PT's.
