I watched the fighter do some stunts. I love that sound of freedom.
Cool stuff. I was in Oregon so I missed all that...
That B-2 is really an amazing thing. I was in charge of security at the Denver Int'l Airshow back in '94? After the show, the planes were leaving at various times over the next couple of days. When the B-2 left, it turned around and did a low pass over one of the north/south runways. Coming up from the south. You couldn't hear a thing until it was right on top of you. Quite stunning to clearly see that craft speeding towards you and hear no noise- then you could it all very suddenly. Quite an experience.
I heard a story (not sure if it's true or not) that years ago at airshows they would have a F-117 Stealth Fighter on display, but all it would be was the three pieces of the landing gear. You couldn't see the plane because it was "stealth". The area would be roped off big enough so that it would surround a plane if one had actually been there. Pretty funny if it's true.
Never heard that one, but I have pics of the 117 at the DIA airshow that I took after hours along with the Air Force guards assigned to it. When no one else was around they allowed me to climb up the ladder and look in the cockpit. It was kept in the United hangar overnight and it was roped off.
The only B-2 fly-over I have experienced was at an Air Force football game. You didn't hear anything, then all of the sudden the sky above turned black...it was a B-2 that seemed so close you could touch it. Didn't hear anything until it was past.
Gave me goose bumps. It was amazing.
