You are correct in the fact that it is illegal to "Target shoot" within 150 yrds. of any campground, structure, trail or road. It however is not illegal to hunt under those circumstances.Quote:

We were "Hunting" in Pike National Forest..they were live critters...prairie dogs...but still critters, not paper.

Where he got popped was just west of Highway 67 at the Teller/Douglas County line. There is a big field there full of prairie dogs. It almost across from the turn off that goes east to Rainbow Falls. There is no place to drive in..it's walk in only.
We've even seen antelope in that field.
We hunted it for about 10 years before he got busted...haven't been back in almost 10 years.....I stick to eastern Colorado now.

Is the South shoot area east or west of 67?
I bet it is on the west side...in about 1/4-1/2 mile in the big meadow backed by the hills.
I've had been shooting there for about 20 years...again I haven't been in a few years though.
It was closed right after the burn? They used it for a staging and storage area. There is a herd of elk that live in that immediate vacinity...usually within 1 mile of that location. If shooting starts...they usually head west over the hill but return to the meadow to feed.
Have you seen anybody climb that hill with a 4x4?

Yup that's the spot exactly. Used to get real heavy use by shooters but always seemed to stay clean. Still does too. And I have seen a motorcycle and ATV up that hill, and I reported same to the local forest ranger. [roll] Oh, did I mention that is a "No Motorized Vehicle" area? :twisted: But that's where we shoot, not where my son hunts. He hunts on private propert about a mile south of there. He even gets paid for taking out the local vermin whilst not disturbing the Mrs. of the property owner. He LOVES silencers now. :twisted: :twisted: Karl.
Hence why I asked I have never come across any in the hills so I was curious. From Kenosha pass all the way to the New Mexico boarder is pretty much prairie and a finger of that go's up towards WP. I see tons of antelope in Jefferson. I have never seen any dogs but it is all private property I don't know of any of the flats that are NF.Quote:
