The answer is yes and no.
Some supplies are for the school and some are for just your kid.
You should see the cases and cases of copy paper in the office after the kids bring in their school supplies.

I don't have kids, nor do I goto Walmart but I have to believe amazon has to be a cheap option as well.
Here's my list that we bought a couple weeks ago.
Kindergarten: 2 boxes bold markers, 2 large boxes Kleenex, 48 #2 pencils, 1 full size back pack with name, 6 glue sticks, 1 fiscars(kid scissors) 1 box snack plastic bags, 2 boxs crayons 16 count, 1 dry erase marker(for 5 year olds that want to get high I guess) 1 ream paper, 2 large bacterial wipes, 1 box qt plastic bags, 3 boxes healthy snacks, 1 box 12 colored pencils, 2 wide rules spiraled notebook purple or yellow your choice.
I'd be happy just having to get the 48 pencils. Oh and they want 300.00 a month for the 6 hour day of kindergarten. I'm just glad I only have one kid. Wheew that could get expensive for a big family. See I'm tan because I work outside for a living, and they put me up to a color chart and I'm just a little off from it being all free.[Bang] thats a joke I kid I kid
I will just have my kid sit next to Stuvings [Tooth] That should save me a few $$$$$,
