I've got an Australian Kelpie, a Huntaway, and used to have a Siberian Husky.

Rather deal with a Lab's shedding than a husky's. Labs are great dogs, very friendly, but he'll have loads and loads of energy until he's at least 4 years old. He'll be the best friend you'll ever have though. Congrats!

That website has a forum similar to this one, with LOTS of smart dog people who are always willing to share.
