sHiNy ThInGs....... barrel is too purdy, how to de-purdy a barrel.

So the consensus is bead blast and then maybe a high temp coating? kind of what I was thinking. If you see this barrel you would understand, if it was a flat surface I could use it as a mirror almost. Beautiful, just not ME......... I like black and utilitarian over shiny / fancy.


So Ray do I have to buy the sand to use the bead blaster? I will probably have to remove the barrel which means I need some tools for a 308 ...........

Didja see that big black cabinet in the corner when you were here Skully?
That would be an industrial blast cabinet.
On the other bench is another big black thing that contains tools.
308 platform tools to be exact.

Nope. No buying "sand". Plus, it isn't sand. Sand blasting will make a pretty rough surface and remove a bit of material as well. What I have access to is a glass bead cabinet. It uses glass beads. They leave the surface dull but smooth and don't really remove any material.

You would need the .308 tools though. Or we would have to take some time masking off everything we don't want blasted.

The 1911 I posted earlier started life looking like this...

Then I decided that was way too much bling and really showed fingerprints so I bead blasted it.

Okay I need to figure out what my next step is. After taking pics of this thing you can see how "sHiNy" the barrel is.
