Actually we pay for it in the form of additional tax on OUR phone bills.

Yep- taxpayer dollars... considering the FCC is funded by taxes.

The gov is so freaking huge now that someone will mention yet another new department and say "the money comes from them, not taxpayer dollars". Sooner or later I fear the "gimme free stuff" population will control the balloty box and at that point we are screwed permanently.

Kind of like Dennis Miller was saying last night - the poor schmuck making $45K/year working his butt off would be smart to just quit the job and make $40K/yr off the gov dole.
