How can a "news" network call these states so early?
Can they really tell how a state will trend with 5% of the vote in?

It's kind of bogus. But they have models that predict the way the state will sway with even small percentages of votes.
Even the UNIVAC called the election correctly in the early 50s when Eisenhower was running against Stevenson.
Not sure how much i buy it.
