I've been doing my wife's math homework and even though it is a pita, it is kinda fun.

If you have a graphing calculator it will take you about 2 seconds to solve using a matrix. Just a sec and I post how.

Here is a link to the method, just do a 3 x 3 and 3 x 1 matrix. This is the only way to go for dynamics where you have 5 variables or more and 5 or more equations. That would take hours to solve.

But for your case your matrix looks like:

[3 -1 1 ] [x] = [11]
[2 -1 -4] [y] = [22]
[2 -4 1 ] [z] = [13]

Now the 3 x 3 is matrix a or [A] and the last 3 x 1 is matrix b or [B]. Plug those into your calculator then push [A]^(-1)*[B].

The answer you get is:

[4 ] x = 4
[-2] y = -2
[3 ] z = 3

Just in case she asks you any more questions in the near future you will look like a genius when you have the answer in seconds.

This, I was going to pull out Matlab and solve it this way, but it looks like someone beat me to it, and I'm tired.

In Matlab though, this is how simple it would be.

A = [3 -1 1 ]
[2 -1 -4 ]
[2 -4 1 ]

b = [11]
[22]
[13]


Soln = A\b

Thats a left divide, not a regular divide. Very easy using this method and I'm sure a graphing calculator is just as easy (if you know how to use it lol).

It is better to just use a damn linear algebra for those equations.
