Guns and mags on flight?

Oh yes, I have flown several times with my hi-capacity, fully semi-automatic, evil-looking, militarized assault rifle death dispensers. [facepalm]





It's been about a year since I've flown with a firearm, so I don't know if anything has changed, but most airlines have similar rules. Just be careful about things like the case size and how you store your ammo, because they might try to bite you in the butt for it.

I've heard (always a danger) that PMAGS with the cap on meet the TSA definition of "packaging designed to secure a small amount of ammunition". So I gave it a try on my last trip. Don't know if I was just lucky, but neither the counter agent nor the TSA screeners said anything about my two loaded PMAGs with caps. But I digress.

Aside from whatever rules your airline has in place, here are the TSA Regs on the matter. Traveling with firearms is not difficult in the least. Be polite, let the counter agent lead the process, and you will be just fine. They deal with this stuff dozens of times in a day, and will not likely be fazed by anything you are transporting, as long as you are not an ass.

Incidentally, on my last trip through DIA in November, I learned that the SkyCaps guys can now check in firearms. I think this is the best deal going. The lines are always shorter, and after a $5 tip, my bags always seem to weigh 49.5 lbs.

Edit: Crappy cell phone pics of my gun case getting checked in at DIA, and on the baggage carousel at BWI. On my last return flight through Denver, they had my guns in the baggage office, which I thought was a good idea once I figured out where they were.
