Been thinking that myself.

They guys at blucore are really pushing buyers to take one of their classes on safety and usage. For many of the buyers it is their 1st firearm or a firearm they are not at all familiar with. Their classes are loading up so at least some people are interested in learning. He also stated they are talking about having a range officer in the shooting area to watch people more closely and make sure they are being safe.
Those who do not have guns are buying them. I was at G&G earlier and a young fellow ~25ish, was looking at an AR15 in a strange caliber, thought he should get one. A little late I'd say. He knew absolutely nothing about the AR platform, didn't know the stock from the barrel. Scary.
IF it's the mood. In some places IT's always been the mood. RE: Gordon Kahl

I go to Bass pro a lot to look at everything they have and always see what is in stock behind the counter. Before the rush to buy firearms recently I would stereotypical say that they were being bought by people from out in the sticks and random inner-city people mixed in with a few hunters and such. Now it seems like it is all first time firearm owners with no clue what they are looking at only that they want to buy something. Seems to me a fair number of people are buying for the first time and then joining our site and other firearm sites to educate themselves (wish it was more, and wish the learned then bought after they knew what they were doing).
Its not everyone. It is first time buyers, doctors, lawyers, bank administration. Its not the run of the mill trader. Look on some of the sites and see the feedback of some of these folks. Don't know where they have been, but they have an endless supply of cash.
At the Tanner this morning (which was insanely busy; avoid if you can), there was a super-busy vendor near the back of the North hall, selling cheaply tricked out DMPS ARs ($3K+!!!) and 870s. I saw many young guys who I would estimate were 25-30 years old buying up the ARs as fast as they could write the orders. Two of them I asked if this was their first rifle, and both said yes. I'm not sure if they understand the terrible value they are getting, but I don't think it mattered to them - they just wanted an AR.
