I moved back from overseas 9 years ago into a job that I knew would have me traveling a lot. I took that as an opportunity to do a clean break and went cell phone only -- Mom and friends didn't have to know or remember whether I was traveling, they just call one number and don't worry about it.
I have an LG flip phone and refuse to get a data plan. I got it while I was in college (the last person by a long way in my circles) instead of reconnecting the land line after a move. These days it's getting really hard to get a "dumb phone" that's well made and I'm trying to take really good care of the one I have. Who knows if I'll be able replace it in a year or so.
It works great for my life. I spend all day in front of a computer and obviously it's no problem from home. When I go out the last thing I want to do is look at another screen and I really like being somewhat unreachable from time to time.
no cell here. have considered replacing the land line with a cell a couple times but it comes down to not being worth paying more for a reduction in quality.
My wife has tried to get me to switch to a "smart" phone but trying to navigate email and the web on those postage-stamp size screens drives me nuts - I went to the store and truly tried to envision myself with one of those things, no-go. I make photographs for a living and that entails either being so far off in the sticks that there's no coverage for a smart phone, or I'm at my desk working on a very large HD display with web/email quite readily available. I'll hold out at long as I can with the dumb phone, I really have no interest in smart phones, or the fees involved therewith. The mad rush by the masses to get the latest phone or pad every time the makers release the next generation absolutely boggles my mind.
I have a smart phone and use it more as a computer than phone. I deal with phones all day at work so by the time I leave, I cringe at the sound of a phone or being "available". I leave it on silent and check it at my convenience.
Definitely 5 old fogies on here.
I have 2 smart phones, one for work and one personal.
i have a cell phone. It doesnt work here at the house unless the planets are in some kind of weird alignment. I would say it gets about 3 minutes of use a month. I only use it if I leave the house, and that maybe happens 1 time a month or every couple months.
