Any idea what your buddy was aiming at while practicing strafing runs over a major metropolitan area? Now I'm not sure if I'm more concerned that this is happening, or that some of us are so desensitized to this that it doesn't bother you.

CBS miami had some more info on it and some videos of soldiers repelling onto a platform. They said it was training for "overseas urban combat"

we did things like this from time to time. On our MEU work ups we practiced by attacking buildings in downtown LA and even at one point practiced raiding abandoned houses in residential neighborhoods.

My in-laws live up by the Southsite and they experience nighttime military training directly over their house almost every summer. Low flying choppers stick around for 30-45 minutes typically. Although I don't think they do any ground drills nor have they ever heard any blank firing.
