It is ridiculous. They've been screwing with the rules for years, cutting down the number of weight classes, and the international styles of wrestling have become less exciting to watch. Half of the matches are decided by the ref grabbing either the red ball or the blue ball out of a bag. And the other half of matches are overturned on protests by whiny bitch countries.
Putting on a wrestling tournament is a piece of cake. You could hold the Olympic wrestling event in any high school gym in the country in 2 days, with about $10k worth of mats and equipment, and volunteer refs and matworkers. I can't imagine any financial reason why they would ever cut it. And that's before considering that it's one of the world's oldest sports, and has been in every Olympics, since ancient times. Half of the sports in the Olympics shouldn't even be Olympic events. In terms of worldwide participation, wrestling probably blows away 90% of the other Olympic events. Maybe even more.
Oh, you can't make a fortune selling the TV rights? Who cares? Don't put it on TV.
I've been telling my old high school for years that they should stop doing Freestyle and Greco, and start wrestling collegiate year round. I hope they finally start doing so. They aint going to the Olympics now, so what's the point?

Agreed. My entire family is a wrestling family. My father and I were wrestlers and then coaches, and my younger brother was a National Freestyle Champ. One of the best sports out there to teach discipline and accountability for your actions... but hey, who needs that anymore...Quote:

Not to stir the pot here or start any conspiracy theories, but I've actually worked with people from the Olympic Committee here in The Springs and I've been told candidly that there are many people in the international Olympic scene that want to strip the Olympics of ALL sports even REMOTELY connected to martial arts, hunting or shooting ... bunch of peacenick BS about how they don't want the Olympics to be about "fighting, war or killing".
