Here is the message I got out of this:

My son got the same reaction when his teacher told them that fighting back would get them suspended, the teacher felt the need to call me to explain school policy, i made it very clear that he would not be a victim for them and would not be in trouble with me if he defended himself,

After reading this last sentence in the article, I wouldn't trust the writer of the article to clean anything up.

I'm sorry, clean up anything. I wouldn't want to finish my sentence with a preposition.
