40 percent chance of rain tomorrow.
Well crap... That sucks if it has moved into timber now.Quote:
This is more than a grass fire.
its windy here and it smells like smoke heavy.
Guess the official name is now Galena fire in Soldier canyon.
Sitting at the in-laws saw some good torching this evening. You would see the dull orange glow then poof up goes a lodgepole. I think Colorado may be closer to getting that Air Fleet they want considering the closest air tanker is in Montana. Ironic they were just talking about it yesterday.
Larimer county Sherif just posted this update:
Returned from a full day at the Galena Fire. Poudre Fire Authority has turned the fire over to the LCSO, but will continue to be a major player in suppression efforts.
With the winds, dry conditions and light fuels, at times, this was a very fast moving fire. However, we are glad to report no loss of structures and no injuries from the fire. We are expecting a good cool down and fairly high humidity levels tonight. However, with tomorrow's cool front, we also expect a wind event around midnight tonight. Crews will remain on the fire overnight to monitor.
We hope the change in weather and the arrival of more crews tomorrow will help us get a handle on this fire.
Current estimates put the fire at ~900 acres and there are around 100 personnel on the fire. Getting resources is difficult this time of year, because the federal fire crews are typically laid off over the winter. That means we will rely on more crews assembled from around our area.
We were able to get all the Soldier Canyon Estates residents back in tonight, but with the active fire and forecast winds, we are not able to get all the residents from the Shoreline Dr area back in tonight
Way too early for this. Come on rain.
