Kinda like the Liberals that are mad because the sheriff refuses to enforce the new law but it's ok for the big city cops to refuse to enforce immigration laws and become a sanctuary city.

I'd say stop being divisive and TEACH the lad... He's a Fudd? Okay, well do your part and make it so he isn't. If he won't change his mind after your attempts you're either doing it wrong, or he can't be helped- if the latter, then he's a lost cause and should be branded a traitor and talk crap on him as much as you can- especially to his face.
Teach first, convince second, build last
The "my guns are OK, your's aren't" mentality is actually quite common within the gun owning community. A few weeks ago on 1911forum, someone posted "Well, at least none of the proposed legislation will affect 1911's". While appalling, it wasn't all that surprising. I know a few people that own semiauto pistols but primarily are into upland bird shooting and weren't in the least bit concerned about the gun control push after the CT shooting as nobody was suggesting that OU shotguns be banned.
Just look at the comments that come after any op-ed on gun control and there will invariably be a few posters that say, in effect, "I'm a lifelong gun owner but don't think anybody needs to have an AR/AK".
While we can preach 'stand together', in truth I don't see it happening. Just look at RMGO trashing the NRA, that's hardly putting forth a cohesive front.
Like some of the guys that Bloomberg has working for him as antigunners: "F everyone else, I got mine, and only I know how to use them!"
