Where are gonna be stationed, closest City ? Knowing that I might give you some tips where you could go.
I left Hamburg (north Germany) 7 yrs ago and since that stuck here, feels like it's gonna be time soon to go visit my relatives.
Best currency exchange rates you will find around the big rail stations like Frankfurt/Main, they called Geld Wechsel or Wechselstube

Hamburg has great pubs. Berlin obviously has great touristy things. I took a tour down the Rhein to see castles that was a good time. The beer is great but so is the food to me, some if the best I'd had in several trips to Europe.
I was stationed there from 2004-08, near the Dutch border. The big questions are time and budget? Personally, I love the Mosel-Rhein region, the Eifel. Where is brother stationed? Are you a car nut? Like wine? May 29th isn't much time to plan. If there is a beer or wine festival while you're there, it's a must hit. Personally, my favorite place in Germany is the Nurburgring, but I'm a motorhead. On the Mosel, there is a town called Cochem. I send every friend I know visiting Germany there. Heidelberg is also fantastic. So much to see and do, I couldn't do it all in 4 years! Do you speak any German? Does your brother? If you answer some of these questions, I can put together an epic list of things to see and do and would be happy to help.
I haven't been there since '96, but Berlin certainly has a lot of stuff to see. I liked Munich. I would recommend letting yourself get lost somewhere and see what happens. ;)
In Berlin be sure to see Check Point Charlie and follow the pavement markings where the wall used to be. The new Reichstadt (sp?) is worth seeing as well. In Nuremburg the stadium where Hitler frequently spoke (my wife swears she could hear troops marching there) also the courts where the trials were held. Venice is my wife's favorite. you need to go there once. Have an adult beverage outdoors in St. Marks square in the evening and listen the the entertainment. When we were there, hundreds of people lined up to see our ship cast off while "Time to say goodbye" was played over the ship's loud speakers.
For inexpensive airfare, check Iceland Air. They fly from Denver to Reykjavik and from there to Frankfurt. Their prices were the best for my trip to England last week and my friend's trip to Germany on May 1st.
Breman, Breverhaven, Oldenberg, Fun places to walk around in. Didn't spend enough time in Hamburg. If you happen to go past Garlstadt, give my regards.
Haven't been to Germany since 1983 when there was still East & West. East Berlin was an eye-opener.
