Westy, I think you hit the nail on the head. I routinely ask various people if they know what their Constitutional rights are. I even ask the simplest question, what is Constitutional Amendment #1? You know, out of maybe 500 people, maybe 3 knew. But even they only knew parts. I have yet to question and be answered correctly. I even had one person tell me that the First Ammendment is the right to watch whatever t.v. program you want. I serenely explained to her that they didn't have electricity back when the Constituion was written, let alone television.....
Lord, come back soon.......
post script: So I asked my kids. Guess what? They are not taught the Constituion like most of us were in school. Amazing. They will teach "black history" and "latino history", but not our own roots. Makes me effing sick. Seriously.

you will see as I have most teachers are in the middle but swing toward the left more often than not. My dad, mom, sister, brother in law, 2 uncles are all teachers and my girlfriend is finishing to be a teacher. I am the lone non-teacher being a pilot although I have taught people to fly and have my substitute teaching license.
In college they do learn a lot about the history of the US if they take the courses. My GF knows more than I ever did and I learn more from her all the time. We have some pretty good and sometimes heated discussions but I like how she really knows her facts.
Hopefully if obama gets elected it won't be such a big deal with black history month and we can have a US history month instead. There is good information from those groups and a lot of history in it, but you are right our kids need to know how the country was founded and the beliefs and ideas it was founded on.
I was getting Bored with My sig line,, I think I have a new one now....

Speaking of what kids learn or don't learn in school here is what I found at the library. Several years ago I went to a book sale at the library and I found a school book on government.
Great I thought I need to bone up on our government and this should be a good read. I started to read the book and it started with the ammendments. Great, reread them for a good refresher. I started reading this mess and nothing was in order, the thought pattern of the author was all over the place and nothing really flowed or made much sense. After a few pages I went to the index and guess what was missing? The 2nd ammendment was no where to be found in the entire book. I can only assume the rambling, the screwed up flow was put there so unless you were looking for the 2nd you wouldn't even miss it.
After this book and several other things also I decided if I ever had kids they would not go public school and be exposed to this crap.
To this day my daughter has never spent a single day in public school and as long as I'm able she never will.

fuck this shit.
This mother fucker better do a damn good job getting rib of the problems of the country like the gas prices, the wars in iraq and afghanistan, job unemployment, and cutting down my healthcare costs.
The only thing a politician can fix is an election. They turn problems into never-ending tragedies.
