Went there once, never again...
Pinkerton OUT!
Two stories, one personal and one anecdotal.
Personal. Two M1 carbines were given to Rich Wyatt in Alma Colorado in trade for two Remington 870 shotguns. The Carbines were collectable and had been given to the town by a government program to distribute surplus weapons to police agencies. The guns were not import marked, they were from USGI stocks. Arguably, at the time, the guns were worth 800 to 1000 apiece, I had seen both of them. Chief tells us that Wyatt took the guns and promised to provide two 870's to the department.
The 870's never showed up, ever. I confronted Wyatt on the issue and he told me to keep my mouth shut or he'd sue me. I said go ahead, and have called him a thief to his face ever since. We are not friends.
I has a very close friend and colleague who's a gun collector as well as a cop. He's the kind of collector that only buys very very pristine S&W and Colt pistols. He'd found an unfired example of a Colt 1911, lightweight commander I believe and sent it to Wyatt at Gunsmoke for some work. This was right after Wyatt had gone in search of some hot man love at Jefferson County Jail, his ex had seized the store and it's contents (there was nothing left) and he'd been forced to move. My friend's Colt disappeared, wasn't seized, it just disappeared.
I've heard other stories that I can't verify about very collectible guns "disappearing" while in the possession of Wyatt. I worked with a man who went to high school with Wyatt and knew the family personally, his opinion of Wyatt was that he's always been someone you shouldn't trust. But this is only opinion.
MY experience proves him to be a braggart, thief, liar and bully - and he's welcome to sue me anytime he likes - nothing I've stated here is any less than the truth, except where noted that it's opinion.
I can't believe this guy is still in business with those kind of business pracitces... Why hasn't the ATF shut him down?
Where is his shop so I don't accidentally shop there?
He doesn't mess with guns SHIPPED to him, this is only conjecture, but if it doesn't show on the books - it doesn't exist. So he wont have issues with compliance. Guns brought in for repair are SUPPOSED to go into the books, but trade ins and the like - nope.
I know one guy who traded his WWII era remington 1911 hand-me-down gun into the old gunsmoke for a "custom" Springfield 1911 - it was simply a loaded package A1 w nitesites. He said his gun was still in the box, but he got talked into doing a trade plus 500 for the Springfield. I told him what his older gun was worth, he came unglued. I also showed him my receipt for 550 for the same SA 1911 (no nitesites) I'd purchased that same year (2006).
I think that as gun nuts we all have this concept that gun owners are universally cool honest people with the same passions and goals, what I've learned is that nothing is farther from the truth. Guns are a BUSINESS that some have capitalized on to make a buck, couple that with the patriotic aspect of 2nd amendment supporters and all you have to do is rant a little about the "gubmint" and people will flock to you. That being said, there are LOTS of truly honest and enthusiatic business owners of gun related businesses - but you have to take your time to decide exactly WHO is worth doing business with. The guy above had walked into Gunsmoke to look into modifying his WWII 1911 to something he could carry, got talked into the "new improved" 1911 by Wyatt (according to him).
By law ALL firearms that a dealer receives in the course of business must be logged as an "acquisition". Gunsmithing, transfer, consignment, trade in or outright purchase doesn't matter, if it is brought in by the business, it must be logged in. If there is a firearm in his inventory that is not logged/documented he is dumber than dirt.
Bet his ATF audit/inspections could be real interesting if he doesn't.
ldmaster is clearly a local gun shop hater. We don't need that kind of attitude here bub.
;)
You like the guy, that's your business - why the personal attack? You and Wyatt are buddies? There is a long list of the people he has taken advantage of.
But since I'm a local gunshop hater - care to name another gun shop that I'm supposed to hate?
I used a winky smiley for a very specific purpose.
Wyatt and Gunsmoke can all line up to kiss my ass.
Wow. Was going to go there and check out their shooting instructions. Will keep looking and never step in his shop. What a poor example of someone in the shooting world.
For snapping Irving, SAW the smiley face, but I'm pretty dense and defensive sometimes - I got it, but didn't GET it!?!?!?!
I knew you'd come around. Don't worry about it.
I went to Gunsmoke’s CCW class and had a grate time. Yesterday I purchased a rifle and had no problems.
I also am going to there pistol class soon and think I will have a grate time.
As far as the keeping the money after being denied, I look at it this way, if they were denied by mistake they can get it fixed. If they were denied because they are a felon, convicted of domestic violence or have a restraining order. Then they are committing a felony by trying to buy a gun and they deserve to loose some money.
I thought Irving was being harsh but every post you've made so far is to champion gunsmoke...
I give an honest opinion about my experiences with the people I dill with, so far Gunsmoke has been the best shop that I have dealt with. You don’t have to agree with me that’s your right, but there is no need to attack some one just for offering his opinion. But Irving seems to think that if some one is disagreeing with him he can’t be telling the truth
It has nothing to do with truth, and everything to do with you being a shill.
That's a mite harsh- imho. If sv44magnum has had good experiences there, so be it. No reason to get nasty to him or call him names. I had good experiences there in the past as well. BEFORE they moved and he got too big for his britches. I really never dealt with Wyatt anyway, I usually dealt with Dave Clevinger.
It's equally bad for an FFL to sell a gun to a felon. Taking the $$ is tantamount to a sale. When a 4473 clears, "proceed" is the status back. This means proceed with the transaction. Money changes hands at this time, not before. The non return of funds is theft.
One could equally then call me a shill for the Firing Line- as I have had good experiences there overall when many others have not.[BooHoo]
I believe you are! ;)
There are worse things to call someone than a shill.
Anyone who is happy with Gunsmoke, is getting robbed and laughed at and doesn't even realize it. Not a person to take advice from either way.
Personally I like their gunsmithing business.
I have made some decent money fixing stuff they have effed up!
[Beer]
How dare you call me a shill!! I.. I.. I'm confused.[Coffee]
Don't loose your mind over this shill, 10 to 1 he is a employee or a guy that got a discount or somthing and thought GS was the greatest shop since he first went into gander lol.
I know a lot of you go to Dragonman's, but beware of him too. He's exactly the same kind of businessman, probably worse. Especially with Harley customers, take him an engine to work on, you'll see what I mean. Personal experience. Buy range time if you want, but keep a tight grip on the rest of your cash.
So Did any of you here Tom Martino Last week??? He had a screaming deal for Gunsmoke and Tom said his wife went to Gunsmoke’s CCW Class and said it was great. How about that even Tom Martino likes Gunsmoke…….
Yeah, everyone on Tom's list pays $5,000 a month to be on that list. Pretty much entirely removes the whole point of the list in the first place.
I used to be a big advocate for Martino, until I found out what a crook he is. So sad.
Well This hole thread got started with the Tom Martino show. And I checked Tom’s list and Gunsmoke is not on it. That sounds like a free endorsement from Tom “and his Wife”. So I’m confused was this thread started because Tom was right or is he a fraud like you said. I am starting to think none of you are being honest about going there or having any dealings with Gunsmoke.
Uh oh, the shill doesn't think we're honest.
I think the point of putting my bad experiences is to "warn" others. This is not saying everyone will have a bad experience, but if you see a bunch you can decide for yourself whether or not to do business with them.
I've not personally done business with Gunsmoke so I have no experience to share.
But I frequently go to The Firing Line and have had zero issues with them. I've bought from Botach Tactical and nothing but positive experiences.
But I knew with Botach I was taking a chance based on the reviews... Eyes open going in...
Soooo.... according to SVmagnum, the posters on here who are describing ANY experiences at Gunsmoke are lying- i.e. creating their personal experiences out of whole cloth, and some may never even have been there? That's a stretch. Even for a "shill".
Hi All
IF it walks like a duck quacks like a duck and smells like a duck
then is is most likely a Duck, most people in the know will not go to this store for any reason let alone his so called CCW classes, if it was not for the ill concieved support of peter boyles, Wyatt would not be doing the business he does, Boyles needs to be told that his buddy is full of it but then again so is Boyles.
My brother was planning on purchasing a pistol from Gunsmoke some months ago, and he was in the market for a 1911 (which Gunsmoke claims to be "experts" on). Well he found one and put down a deposit then later found the same pistol at 5280 Armory for $500 less! He went to get his deposit back and they told him it was non-refundable- which they never disclosed when he initially made the deposit. So to rectify the situation he used that $300 credit towards the CCW class. I have not and will not purchase anything from Gunsmoke. I feel they are not the most competitive prices and their service and attitude is less than friendly (criticizing me for being a Glock owner). I only purchase firearms from 5280, Matt and Gina are great and their employees are friendly and knowledgeable- especially since they don't get on you about your choice in firearms, they tell you the strengths and weaknesses and let you decide.
Guys, please don't make true statements about the short comings of vendors. Some of the members of this forum are local vendors. They bring us great deals and allow us great prices on great products locally. I wouldn't want to see any of their feelings hurt, and/or this thread get closed down.
I'm going to have to point out that sv44magnum has terrible spelling in EVERY post. Sure, we all do it, but every post Mag? Not a good way to get people to respect your opinion. Just saying... [Stooge]

On another note, I haven't been to Gunsmoke and I won't based on what has been said here. That dude sounds like a super douche.Quote:
...the people I dill with...
I've used this website before and found this on there:
http://www.ripoffreport.com/gun-shop...t-in-ddafw.htm
long story, but she just had one of the worst experiences... I was gonna do some comparative shopping today and see what Gunsmoke will say or quote for a P229 9mm, not to provoke or anything, just give them an actual fair shot and see if they can meet or beat prices I've seen before (doubtful).
Hey no making fun of people on here, I was informed its not okay. [ROFL1]
