I am going to meet up with buffalobo before the event. I have two Federal bulk packs to donate.
Just wanted to bump this again! We are all so excited, going to be a great time. Currently working on getting a whole regiment of re-enactors to come out and talk a bit about the life and battlefield tactics that were used.
As always, donations are much needed and appreciated. Ammo (.22lr only please) and financial consideration.
Happy new year!
Ladies and Gents,
We are now almost into February. Things are rolling along. This project is in 1.5 months and I'm still sitting at close to 0/0. If you are willing to volunteer some time to help out, donate ammo (.22lr only please), or donate some $$ to help with expenses, etc.... now's the time to get started on it! Please PM me if you have further questions, etc. Most info should be updated in OP.
Much appreciated.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Tim
I will be setting up 2-3 meet ups in Feb(middle to end of month) to collect donations from north area and Denver area. Currently have close to 1000 rnds collected.
Anyone who wishes to loan rifles, semi auto mag fed is best, please note, need sling and should remove bipod if equipped. The Appleseed folks usually have some extra slings available for those who do not have.
How much more ammo do you anticipate needing?
They like to have around 150 rnds per kiddo. About 35 kids. So, 35 x 150 = 5250. Probably round up to 5500 to be on the safe side. Last year we needed less rounds donated because me and another teacher were able to supplement some of our own, but that has obviously been depleted, AND we expect more kids this year too!!! Last year we had 30 kids? (Do you remember Buffalobo/other guys?) This year they will probably cap the class around 35-40, but there is always one or two who refuse the range day, so probably 35 kids will actually shoot out of the whole 40 class.
Also, we need financial donations as well. I suck at asking for money and have been hitting up some local places,... but I'm just not getting anywhere with 'em. Currently talking to Dragonman to see if he'd be willing to help sponsor or something, we can throw up a banner or mention his business in the news articles, or who knows? But it doesn't sound like he'll be interested either.
In case any of you still don't know what this is. Here's a link to Appleseed and what they are all about: http://appleseedinfo.org/
Last year was the first year (nationally) they were able to get into the public school and it was a RAVING success... so this year will hopefully be bigger and better.
I don't know if you've already tried but the Scout program actually got some deals with I believe Winchester for ammo.
I have no affiliation with the Scouts though outside of childhood... good memories too, lol. I tried the BSA last year in helping get this off the ground, they were of no help. However, I'll always try and try again! I do know (name withheld) did PM me about being able a SL and about to help out. I think Buffalobob has already been in contact with him. Thanks for the headsup!
35 kids sounds about right. At least 5500 rds. Any left overs could stay with Bear or be donated to Appleseed folks for other kids.
I will start a thread when I get dates and locations figured out.
Met up with Dave today, he donated some ammo. Thank you Sir!!
Ok Ladies and Gents.... it's getting close to begging time...
On the ammo front we should be close to being ok (hopefully, if I can find a few more bulks).
On the volunteer front, we could really use a lot more people. If you're able to help out on March 18 from 8 am to around 3 pm down outside of Pueblo at a range, we could really use the help watching the kids and keeping things safe, etc. It would be a great time to meet each other as well. If we could have 1 adult per kid, that would be OUTSTANDING!!
Lastly, I hate this stuff, but we are waaaaaay behind on where I thought we could be for financial donations.... Anything would help, if you have the means and heart, we would greatly appreciate it to help out with gas costs, meals, etc from the folks who help put this on that travel from all over Colorado (and I think at least one out of stater)...
That is all, carry on!
Bear
Bear,
I can donate an additional 1400 round bucket if you need it, let me know. And I'll also throw a hundred spot at you as well.
Anyhoo, PM me so we can make arrangements for getting you my donation.

Met up with Bryan today. Outstanding Sir! Thank you!
You're welcome and good luck.

Just a bump... This is coming up quickly, could still use some financial support.... I feel like a hooker, ha!
Update -
Ammo: COMPLETE (if everyone delivers as stated)
Volunteers for range day: COMPLETE (if everyone shows up) (btw, you're more than welcome to come out to the classroom as well all week, learn a lot)
Fiscal support: $150/$2000
Thank you.
BigBear
Questions/comments/etc, don't hesitate to contact me.
Just a clarification, even though the volunteer tab is "complete", I will still welcome anyone to come and hang out and help/watch the kiddos. The more the merrier!
Thank you.
If anyone wins that lotto tonight, please keep us in mind!! [beatdeadhorse]
Quick bump. We are a month out!
It's not too late to donate. We really need some help in the money dept.
As always, whether you donate or not, I invite you to come and check it out! Wednesday is the "range" day but you are invited to the whole event all week long!
NOCO ammo donation collection thread is up now too.
Denver collection thread up next couple days.
Rgr, outstanding. Thank you Sir.
A few other notes:
- I would still love to see more volunteers out! Even though we "should" have enough it always happens that something comes up and x can't make it.
- If you would let us use your .22lr rifle as well, we would appreciate it. Make sure it is marked with your name/contact info. (iron sights are all that is needed)
- Could still use more $$... I always feel like a hooker saying that....
****Businesses, if a business would like to donate and you have a banner of some sort, I can get a little advertising for you. We always have a news crew come out and we can set up your banner on the berm and make sure the news people get a few shots of it. I know the story is only like a 2 min production on the news, but... it's something I can offer to try and gin up more $$ and some advertising for you. Lol.
Thanks folks, time is drawing near!
Rgr. Bring me a Banner and I'll put it up!
Update 2/16
Ammo: Secured if everyone donates as mentioned, however I won't turn away new donations. Please check the threads for your particular area. If you don't see one for your area, gimme a call/text/PM and we'll get something figured out. (THANK YOU BUFFALOBOB for helping with this!!!)
Volunteers: Had a few people that needed to step back for various reasons. Could use about 5 more volunteers. Please let me know if you'd be interested. This is a great way to hook the young ones early and help promote our history, passion, hobby, and lifestyle. The date is Wednesday, March 18, from around 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Avondale Clays and Gun Range. It will be a closed range, SAFETY first and foremost. You'll be helping guide kids, watching over them, calling shots, helping with rifles, etc. Safety, safety. Great way to develop a mentor-ship and leave a great impression with a young one even if it is one day. Also, last year at the end of the day, we usually let adults take a few shots showing the kids some bigger rifles, so... I'm bringing some Tannerite this year to end the day in a big boom. Should be fun for the kiddos.
Rifles/Mats: I neglected to start this from the beginning,... no excuses, I've just been swamped with my work and organizing this is... not easy and I forgot. HA! If you have a rifle/mat we would be able to use for the day, it would be greatly appreciated. We'll need about 15 rifles/mats more if possible. I'm planning on using some blankets as well. Just PM me or Buffalo if you'd be able to help out with that... Eventually to help with fundraising, I'd like to do a raffle and actually GIVE a kid a .22... but with the new laws, etc.... that's on the back burner. Maybe next year.
Money: ... I'm waay behind and am spending a lot of my dime when I can't really afford it. I don't mind, honestly, it's for the kiddos, but the wife does, HA! ... I don't make a lot. We are currently at $220 of the $2K I wanted to raise to help support this... Plainly stated: I could use some help.
Other items: If there are any questions, comments, etc. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. You guys rock!
Thanks,
Bear - Tim
BigBear -- I have your event on my calendar and am planning on supporting. NRA-certified as rifle instructor and CRSO although I prefer instruction to RSO.
As said in another thread, I have a number of target quality bolt-action .22s we can use for this including one with a scope zeroed for 100 yards -- but only have a couple mats. All of them have aperture rear sights, most of them have aperture front sights (some of the Mossbergs have front blades). The one catch is that I don't want just any ammo run through these. CCI or Federal are okay but I have plenty of Aguila ammo that we can use if that's an issue. I've already had one instance of having to replace a bolt due to Remington Thunderbolt ammo and it's hard to find parts for these.
Will try to give you an exact inventory and maybe even some pictures tonight.
Tim, I am taking the day off from work and I'm still planning on coming to help.
I have a plain jane Ruger 10/22 I can bring. It's obviously not bolt action, but let me know if you want me to bring it. Don't have any shooting mats.
Awesome, when Buffalobob picks up all the northern site ammo donations, we can run through them and I'll seperate CCI/Fed and put them to the side for your rifles only. That shouldn't be an issue. Sights shouldn't be a big concern either (app vs. blade/3 dot)... Biggest thing is sight picture, no matter what type of sights. We actually go over that for the kids during the pre-fire instruction.
HB, anything would be appreciated my friend. Doesn't matter if it's semi or bolt. Again, it's all about actual safety shooting, sight pic, etc. No one is going to yell because it's a semi and not a bolt.
Thank you.
