...known as "nopales" in spanish.
I also miss Whataburger.
I really miss the freedoms that seemed to be everywhere when I was a kid. The government is now involved in way too many aspects of our lives.
Wisconsin Lake Perch on Fridays - preferably Bay Perch from the fish guy in Little Suamico or one of a few places left around Green Bay that still serve real Bay Perch there.
I DO NOT miss the weather.
Grrr. A lot of these little Asian markets don't have websites, or they don't have comprehensive websites that you can plug in a product search. Next time I'm at the Commissary, I can check there. We're also heading to the East Coast to visit people, so I can poke my nose in places and see if I can't find something.
Some thoughts: there is a Coca-Cola Distribution center in Denver; you could always give them a call and see if it's possible to order some Georgia Original Coffee from them. You might also give the Pacific Market a call and make sure they are receiving the beverage, and simply haven't updated their website yet. The search I conducted suggests tat this particular brand of coffee can be found in Japan, South Korea, and India...so all of those markets are fair game.
Thanks for the suggestions, Great-Kazoo! :)
I can find it from a Japanese market...but the shipping makes it cost prohibitive.
I just had some boudin for the very first time. My buddy told me, make sure you get some boudin while heading thru Louisiana. Stopped at two different roadside food shacks, that stuff was darn good.
He is going to be bringing me back a few pounds next time he is flying out there. Scroz, I believe it has rice, meat, veggies and spices inside of it. Pretty sure it's not blood sausage.
Heading to Calif to visit Family, gonna hit-up In-N-Out, Geezers, North Woods Inn, & Dewar's if time permits. Hopefully come home Fat & Happy !!
Oh man, the red cabbage salad at NWI!!!!! There was a time when I'd only eat that and the garlic/cheese bread there. Sooo good.
We used to go to the one in Pomona but then the one in La Mirada opened up and that one was closer to us.
Boudin is literally "blood sausage", but they have different fillings/varieties/recipes. Here's one you can order that is made also with rice: http://www.tienda.com/food/products/cz-20.html?site=1
Calzones and Bazookas at the old Roma on Washington
Lolito's Burritos back when it was still just a walk-up counter
Too bad both have disappeared or turned to crap.
Is there still a Roma in Greeley, and if so, is it any good?
Sent via Mobile Work Avoidance Device
Yes the Roma in Greeley is still there and very good.
I really miss my Sanity. I seem to remember it going missing in 1985 or so...
Amen to that. My family used to go there every Saturday up here in FoCo until they closed. Then, we'd go by the one next to I25 when we came back from the airport (always enjoyed the blind piano player at that one).
(It seems like many restaurants my family prefers go out of business...coincidence? >.>)
Could not recall anything I really missed until this.
Calzones and bazookas at Roma was a weekly requirement when I lived in the neighborhood.
Good to hear Greeley location still there and putting out good food. Wife and I will definitely check it out.
lobbed from my electronic ball and chain
The one thing I miss the most is tri-tip, brisket is ok but nothing beats a properly cooked tri-tip. Also in-and out sucks they used to be good 20 years ago, there burgers suck now.
Don't get me started... Lived off those evil things for 12 months, and stupid Red Bull and Monster just aren't the same! [Beer]
Ah Pook- your pictures didn't work without having to do some redirect... The gas station up in Genessee (by the Chart House) has moon pies. I don't know where to find RC Cola though... I love RC Cola and Moon Pies, and I'm not from the South!
Anyone else remember the Yum Yum Tree on South Colorado Blvd?
Cinderella City [LOL] Thought it weird once we relocated a mall would close @ 6 on saturdays.
Liked eating breakfast or lunch @ El Tepeuhan's steak, fries smothered in chili verde, OH YEAH. Just south and across the street was the surplus store. When surplus stores carried Surplus.
OR the CHINA HOUSE, south side of the Gothic's parking lot.
The Apple Tree Shanty on Colfax and Yosemite. They had the BEST ribs...
Chubby's... Haven't eaten there in ages! Probably not since they closed their Arvada store. YUM!
Haven't had this in ages, used to much on it like jerky almost every day.

Sent from my ass using re-fried beans.
Red Hot & Blue outside of Annapolis had wonderful pulled pork.
The Doner Kebab stand on Yorkstrasse in Berlin could not be matched....although the stand at Platz de Luftbrucke had the best tzaziki...
Beer, whiskey and Marlboros. But they say its for the best :-(.
I miss food with gluten. Im not sure if this is a food only thread, but I miss the Reagan era, the 80s, and cassette tapes.
As far as things like In-n-Out... My mind can't get past the fact they're from over the 'wall.. so they taste like 'jit to me now
I miss REAL seafood... like Sea Bass you caught just minutes to hours ago, and cleaned it yourself before cooking it right there on the boat.. Halibut bigger than your children (210# was the biggest I helped haul in person, and 180# I hauled in myself when I weighed like 140#)
I see the enjoyment my kids get out of fishing here, and if they ONLY knew what real fishing was... [Coffee]
Went camping this last weekend with a group of 1st-world-campers.. (you know what I mean unless you are one) and they were impressed by a Rainbow trout that was maybe 4#... I get that maybe the excitement was for the kids, and I played along... but that was lame.
Definately NOT food only... I miss how a president could get a VAST majority of the population to feel EMPOWERED and like they could DO ANYTHING if we only EMBRACED INDIVIDUALITY, rather than the opposite we have now. (and yet has claimed to idolize Reagan)
To this day, I think he only admired how well Reagan was adored- if only he could get people to adore him like that, THEN he would be happy...
Trail dust stake house.
