Please we've been over this a few times. While you will be unable to bring your NFA and semi guns that CA has since banned. There are numerous firearms one is allowed to own, minus 11+ round magazines. Turner Outdoors has a bigger selection of semis / AR style rifles than the top 3 in NoCO and probably your area combined.
Regarding gun friendly people call the number i gave you, you'll be dialed in within the week. AND make a few new drinking friends. Most who share some if not all the philosophy you do.
Unless Whole Foods starts selling items that contain gluten or MSG, rioting in Boulder is not very likely.

The one issue I keep running into is that I want to keep our home secure from the bad guys, but I also don't want it to be too difficult for us to vacate/firemen to respond. Does that make sense? We've already had one fire. If we have bars on the windows, for instance, how long will it take to escape? Will a special film on the glass make it that much harder to break from the inside?
We have plenty of improvements that could be made for the security of our home, but it's a much finer line than I realized between 'security' and 'trap'. Am I overthinking this?
I think you'd have a hard time getting here from LV should things take such a turn ... that said my brother lives in Vegas so you can join him if you like :D
I'm thinking some sort of quickly deploy-able extra security measures would be a good idea. Something you keep stored in the basement or garage only to be deployed if the S hits the F. Something along the lines of a complete set of bars for the windows that you could install within a couple hours.
Another option might be steel shutters like folk in hurricane country use.
That way in times of peace you're not making it harder to escape a burning house nor interfere with the FD doing their job.

You have them made to look like flower pot hangers. Mounted to one side or centered between ground floor windows.
